Zheng Qi (b. 1998) – Tokyo University of the Arts
Born in Fujian, China, Zheng Qi is currently enrolled in the First Printmaking Studio at Tokyo University of the Arts.
Her practice examines the complex dynamics of the mother-daughter relationship, psychological introspection, and the corporeal record of illness. Since being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome five years ago, her work has increasingly engaged with the uterus and illness as motifs, situating the female body as a site where personal experience intersects with broader reflections on mortality.
Presented in this exhibition, the Japanese painting “Knowing It Will Scatter, Yet Unafraid to Bloom” embodies the transformation of her perception of life and death across time, seeking to transmute intimate narratives into universal inquiries.
